Why fear of plagiarism is no excuse for not presenting at conferences.

Participation in conferences, networking with your professional community, and sharing your ideas at research forums is of extra importance in your professional success. Without such exposure, which must happen as early as possible in one’s work, one will be “outdated” before having a chance to publish one’s ideas.

I heard from some students (and unfortunately some faculty) that going to conferences  and presenting your work exposes one to dangers of plagiarism. This is not so. With the development of internet publishing, blogs, rapidly published online journals with fast review processes, it is clear that ideas emerge not in one, but in many heads at the same time.

If you go public with your ideas, you will attract friends and collaborators, and refine your research; creativity thrives on communication. Professionally, you will open for your self job opportunities of service in this rapidly changing world.

In this blog, I will be publishing information about conferences, publishing and networking opportunities. Please make good use of this information. For example, below is the information on the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation, which is a publication of the International Society of Trauma and Dissociation. This is a hot topic, with lots of ideas and new developments.
